 Think Celestial:

Caring For The Needy

Tuesday, September 10th, we met at the church to carpool to Deseret Industries to learn about what happens when we donate to the DI.

We met in a conference room where a former Bishop named Mitch explained their training program.

After the employment crisis of the Great Depression, Deseret Industries was largely concerned with providing employment. Even in the early days of DI, workers were encouraged to improve and expand their skills so they could find regular employment and become self-sufficient.

Deseret means “honey bee” (Ether 2:3). The honeybee represents hard work, productivity, and collaboration.

Each new associate is given a handbook to help coach the associate through the training process.

A great statement for anyone still working or even volunteering.

We create better lives for people in the community. At Deseret Industries, Deseret Manufacturing, and the Humanitarian Center, we assist the associates enrolled in our job training program with whatever help they need to find employment. This includes:

Training and job readiness.

Furthering education.

Removing employment barriers.

Building confidence.

Exploring career options.

Support during the job search process.

new furniture and sleep products are made at Deseret Manufacturing using solid wood and quality materials that ensure durability at a reasonable cost. While providing great value to customers is an important goal, the mission focuses on those enrolled in their training program. When you purchase these products, you make it possible for associates to develop new skills.

New products provide associates with the chance to learn marketable skills in carpentry, manufacturing, and distribution. It is through experiences like these that associates receive training and prepare for future jobs and opportunities.

Resources are available to anyone looking for a job.

Carol and Darrell Baldwin are Service Missionaries at the Employment Center.

Anyone looking for work can go to the Employment Center M-F 10 am- 4 pm .

No appointment or authorization is needed.  Just show up and help can be provided.

No one should go through a job search alone. At Employment Services, we have a team of experts, support groups, webinars, workshops, and other resources available to help you achieve your self-reliance goals.

We received a bag, usually given to homeless people who come in and talk to the Transitional Services Missionaries.  They give them out at their discretion depending on the needs of the individusals.

This field trip to Deseret Industries was very informative.  I was impressed with their associate training program, the organized way they move donations through their facility, and the gracious resources for anyone looking for employment.
