Assembling Hygiene Kits for The Dove Center 

Community Resource Coordinator Natalie Cripps told us about Dove Center.  

Their mission:

At DOVE Center, we are committed to cultivating an informed community free from domestic abuse and sexual violence.

We work to empower those impacted by domestic abuse and sexual violence. We do this by:

Providing safe shelter and trauma-informed services in order to facilitate safety, healing, and assault recovery;

Engaging children and youth to understand safe, healthy relationships and mutual respect, to break cycles of violence in families and in the community;

Relentlessly pursuing community education to increase bystander awareness and shift culture norms.

We listened as she told us about the history and needs of the center. 

The property on which the DOVE House shelter is located was donated by the city of St. George and the House and grounds were built entirely by the contributions of generous community members. Operations began in 1994 and all of DOVE Center’s service provisions were located in this original facility until 2010, at which point an additional service site was acquired.

Over the years, service provisions and community collaborations have increased tremendously resulting in the need for better resources to facilitate the creation of safe self-dependence for our clients. In December 2010, the Board of Trustees acquired a separate facility to serve victims of domestic and sexual violence who do not need safe shelter. This new facility also created the opportunity for us to provide long-term advocacy, case management services to former residents of the DOVE House shelter, and counseling.

Natalie got emotional when she said that she loved Relief Society Sisters because we are the cream of the crop.  

Donated shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soap, shave gel and razors were set out on each table. 

Kits were assembled into cellophane bags with crinkle paper strips, supplies, and a bow to hold it together.  A tiny Jesus figure was placed inside the bag. 

The snack table had lots of treats and pretty flower centerpieces.

We created 29 kits for Dove Center as well as donating many other items.

DOVE Center is able to meet the critical needs of survivors because our generous community members help keep our shelves stocked. When a survivor of domestic abuse is seeking safe shelter, they do so quickly, taking few possessions. In welcoming them to DOVE House, we might provide personal hygiene products, laundry soap, diapers, pet food and so much more.
